**Digital Poem Divination Practice** Introduction: *Doikayt* is the Yiddish word that 19th century Bundists invented for the refusal of Zionism. “Hereness” as opposed to “thereness.” In this divination practice, the land of the poem is the "hereness" of diaspora. The need for a language that can be unwoven and rewoven, coded and uncoded is the need for a prayer. The poem offers itself as an archive, ancestor, web of relationality. Take one breath from the air in a very far away place and one sip of water from a source close by before you touch something that could have been bread in another life, but is not bread. This piece is an experiment in languaging generationally. Divination is the summoning of a thread. My divination is interested in tracing source and fragmenting trace. I am curious how a thing can animate itself through a re- figuring, or departure. The code obscures a map of the poem’s ancestry, categorized by first letters of words that operates as a landscape of possibility. The poem was fractured within the code before the user has engaged with the divination; yet, the user repeatedly enacts this breakage. Breakage flows into channelling. In 2025, this piece was given an honorable mention the the Annual Jurried Student Exhibition at the Granoff Institute, Brown University. [[go back -> Start1]]
